FedExForum Information

The FedEx Forum is the largest public building construction project in the history of Memphis, Tennessee. This $250 million facility was completed on time and on budget thanks to the help of the New Memphis Arena Public Building Authority. FedEx purchased the naming rights, which earned the facility it's title.

In May 2002, design development was completed followed by the June groundbreaking ceremony in Memphis. One year later, in June 2003, construction of the administrative building and parking garage got underway. The following month came as the roof construction began, which was completed by December. In January 2004, much of the enclosure of the FedEx Forum was completed with the entire enclosure wrapping up in June. In July 2004, the FedEx Forum was really coming together and, by September, the first events were held. In October 2004, the FedEx Forum was completed and fans began checking the schedule for upcoming events.

The FedEx Forum is owned an operated by the NBA's very own, Memphis Grizzlies, who proudly calls the Forum home, as well as the University of Memphis Tigers basketball team. FedEx Forum, much like Conseco Fieldhouse, was designed with a unique theme all it's own. With it's location being in Memphis, the theme was fittingly chosen to be Memphis Music. Upon designing, the architects assured everyone that the theme would not transform the FedEx Forum into a museum. Instead, it's idea was to showcase the rich history of music while promoting new tunes in Memphis. Fans who visit FedEx Forum will see themed areas of concourses that pay tribute to the Blues, Rock 'n Roll, Gospel as well as a featured section of emerging artists in various music genres.

With the assistances of the Urban Art Commission, the FedEx Forum also promotes the work of regional artists who incorporate music into their work. Images of original art, which were selected by a committee of music and art enthusiasts, can be seen throughout the arena. The Smithsonian's Rock 'n Roll Museum is also located on the arena grounds. The FedEx Forum hosts a variety of events each year. With it's rich historic location in Memphis, the facility has incorporated the love of music into it's design. This technique not only attracts fans of the Grizzlies and other events held here, but it welcomes music fans as well. Shopping for official team merchandise is located on site, along with many other amenities, suites and fan favorites.
